About This Event
The ride
On 13 November, fifteen riders leave Sivasagar and head west into Sikkim, through Bongaigaon and Melli, then up through Khecheopalri Lake, Namchi, Zuluk, Gangtok and Lachung. The roads get tighter and higher each day. On 20 November you ride out to Gurudongmar Lake before pushing on to the venue.
The hosting
Our hosting starts on 13 November and runs until 20 November, the day you enter the venue. Stay and food are included every day. You'll sleep in hotels at Bongaigaon, Melli/Jorethang and Gangtok, and in local homestays at Pelling/Khecheopalri Lake, Namchi, Zuluk and Lachung. Breakfast and dinner are covered at every halt, so your only job is the ride.
The road ends at the 16th edition of NERM (Riders Meet Northeast), 20–22 November. You arrive together, after eight days on the road. Only 15 seats.
Day-by-Day Programme (8 days)
Riders leave Sivasagar and ride about 300 km (7–8 hrs) to Bongaigaon. Riders from other towns join from their hometowns. Stay: night halt in Bongaigaon on twin sharing. Food: dinner on arrival, breakfast the next morning.
About 320 km (8–9 hrs), mostly highway. Allow extra time for breaks and traffic. Stay: night halt in Melli on twin sharing. Food: breakfast before departure, dinner at the halt.
Melli → Jorethang → Reshi → Gyalshing → Pelling → Khecheopalri Lake, about 130 km (5–6 hrs). The distance is short, but the mountain roads and stops make it a full riding day. Pelling → Khecheopalri is about 32 km (roughly 1 hr 20 min). Stay: homestay at Khecheopalri Lake on twin sharing. Food: breakfast, then a home-cooked local dinner at the homestay.
Khecheopalri Lake → Pelling → Rabdentse → Gyalshing → Ravangla → Namchi, about 130 km (5–6 hrs). Pelling → Ravangla is about 48 km (around 2 hrs). Stay: night halt in Namchi on twin sharing. Food: breakfast at Khecheopalri, dinner at the Namchi stay.
Namchi → Rangpo → Rorathang → Rongli → Zuluk, about 110 km (5–6 hrs). The last stretch is winding and mountainous, so average speed drops. Stay: homestay in Zuluk on twin sharing. Food: breakfast in Namchi, hot dinner at the homestay.
Zuluk → Nathang → Baba Mandir → Tsomgo Lake → Gangtok, about 95–100 km (5–6 hrs). Allow extra time for photos, permit checks and high-altitude stops. Stay: hotel in Gangtok on twin sharing. Food: breakfast at Zuluk, dinner at the Gangtok hotel.
About 110–115 km (6–7 hrs) of mountain road to Lachung. Stay: hotel or homestay in Lachung on twin sharing. Food: breakfast in Gangtok, dinner at the Lachung stay. Lachung is cold in November, so the stay should have heating.
The toughest day: about 220–240 km (10–12+ hrs). Lachen → Gurudongmar is roughly 62–66 km one way (about 3–3.5 hrs), and altitude and road conditions can add a lot of time. Food: breakfast is included in Lachung before the 4:30 AM start. Lunch is included in Lachen, on the way back from Gurudongmar Lake. Riders then continue to the NERM venue and enter the event on 20 November. Our hosting ends at the venue, so there is no stay in this day's price.
